AHA expresses concern over satellite interference with medical devices

The American Hospital Association (AHA) has urged the US Federal Communications Commission to keep low-earth orbit satellite (little LEOS) transmissions out of the bandwidth dedicated for medical telemetry equipment unless unless it can be shown they do not cause “harmful interference” with medical devices.

The AHA, along with its American Society for Healthcare Engineering, responded to the FCC’s request for comments on a proposal by its radiocommunications advisory panel to give the little LEOS full rein to operate in a bandwidth that has been dedicated to hospitals and other telemetry users.

Little LEO satellites are about 40 cubic inches in size and orbit at 400 to 1,500 miles.
