Huntleigh acquires analysis and monitoring business of Viasys Healthcare
24 August 2005
Luton, England. Huntleigh Technology plc acquired the assets of the
cardiovascular and obstetric analysis and monitoring business of VIASYS
Healthcare Inc. for a cash consideration of £4 million.
This business was in turn acquired from Oxford Instruments plc as part of a
larger acquisition in March 2005. It generated revenues of around £8.5
million in the year to June 2005 with the majority originating in
continental Europe. The book value of the assets to be acquired is expected
to be in the region of £1.8m subject to final stock-counts.
Julian Schild, Chairman of Huntleigh, said, “In our strategic review last
year we announced the intention of broadening the product offering in our
Diagnostics division by means of selective acquisitions. We have admired the
Sonicaid and Medilog brands for some years and are delighted to have the
opportunity to integrate and develop them through our unparalleled
distribution network.”
The Huntleigh share price which dropped from a peak of 460 in Feb 2005 to a
low of 321.5 at the end of June, rose sharply in the July, after the
acquisition, and has been relatively steady up to 24 August at around 360 -
380.
VIASYS Healthcare's Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Randy
H. Thurman, commented, "The disposition of the OB and CV businesses is
consistent with the continued execution of VIASYS' overall strategy to focus
on its core businesses in respiratory care, neurology, medical disposable
and orthopedic products and to divest other non-core products and product
lines."
