Sony launches high-end medical monitor

Basingstoke, UK. Sony has introduced its latest medical-grade LCD
monitor, the LMD-1950MD. It has a high quality picture with accurate colour
reproduction and high resolution. The display meets stringent safety and
electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards and is also suitable for use
in sterile environments.
The LMD-1950MD has been designed without air vents to prevent foreign
matter from entering or exiting the unit to ensure that internal debris
cannot contaminate the sterile environment. The unit also complies with VESA
mounting standards and can be fixed to a surgical mount arm, which makes it
ideal for operating theatres.
“In minimally-invasive procedures, such as endoscopy, the display in the
operating theatre is as important as the surgeon’s own eyes. If the screen
isn’t up to the job, then patient outcomes could suffer. This latest monitor
launch shows Sony is continuing to lead the way in the development of
medical-grade display devices,” said Vitaly Baranov, Product Manager at Sony
Healthcare.
As well as meeting stringent safety and quality standards, the LMD-1950MD
offers high quality picture reproduction, selectable scan modes as well as
support for a range of input signals and an easy-to-use set of controls and
functions. The monitor incorporates a quality SXGA (1280 x 1024) panel to
deliver high levels of brightness, contrast and colour depth. In addition to
the Sony X-Algorithm technology for IP conversion, the monitor incorporates
full 10-bit digital video signal processing, which enables the unit to
deliver natural images with accurate colour reproduction. Video signals are
also reproduced at a high resolution of 700 TV lines, providing detailed
images – an essential requirement for endoscopic applications.
The LMD-1950MD also supports a wide variety of input formats, ranging
from SD to HD video, as well as PC signals via its DVI-D or HD15 connectors.
In addition to its standard inputs, five different optional input adapters
are available for use in its two expansion slots. This gives users the
flexibility to connect multiple signal sources from a variety of equipment.
