Poole Hospital installs E.Novation's radiology information browser
25 July 2006 Poole Hospital NHS Trust in England has become the fifth
client for the Radiology Information System Viewer of E.Novation UK, part of
Dutch company E.Novation International. The new viewer allows Poole Hospital
to view all legacy radiology information by using a web browser.
The replacement of the current radiology information systems (RIS) is
part of the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) projects
currently managed by the Local Service Providers under England's National
Programme for IT (NPfIT).
The reasons for replacement are various; a number of data definitions
have changed, the quality of data is poor due to duplicated patient
registrations and incomplete information, and old hardware platforms don’t
meet the current IT standards.
The RIS Viewer is a web based platform, which healthcare providers simply
access via a web browser. This eliminates the need for local applications on
the usually limited computer systems of these organisations. The system
provides a separate ‘read only’ database which contains current data from
the replaced RIS.
The RIS Viewer has also been installed in Dartford and Gravesham, East
Kent Hospitals, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and Medway NHS Trusts.
