Plexus to develop breakthrough ultrasound system for SuperSonic Imagine

6 December 2007

French start-up SuperSonic Imagine has contracted design and manufacturing services company Plexus to bring to market a novel ultrasound system that can measure the elasticity of tissue.

Knowing the elasticity of tissue is important because stiff tissue is linked to the development of fibrous tissue around cancer foci. This breakthrough system will give doctors more information and the possibility to monitor lesions better.

Plexus has been closely involved in the project to bring the system to market from an early stage, providing design services, test engineering support, prototyping, project management and consultancy services.

The new ultrasound scanner designed by Plexus for SuperSonic Imagine has the potential to speed up cancer diagnosis.

Plexus will now help SuperSonic Imagine prepare their ultrasound system for production and market approval.

Jacques Souquet, founder of SuperSonic Imagine said, “We chose Plexus for their design skills and their knowledge of the special constraints and high standards required in designing medical systems. We are delighted that Plexus is able to assist us in the delivery of our first production models.”

Andy Allen, VP Europe of Plexus said, “SuperSonic Imagine's innovative technology will provide physicians with important tissue elasticity information. More information means a better diagnosis and a better diagnosis can lead to better treatment. It has been extremely rewarding to help pioneer the ultrasound equipment that will support this exciting technology. We are now looking forward to playing our full part in ensuring that this ultrasound system is readily available throughout Europe and the world."
