Nonin Medical develops cerebral oximeter

Nonin Medical has entered the clinical testing phase with its breakthrough technology to measure regional oxygen saturation. Today's most common application for this technology is the continuous monitoring of the regional blood oxygenation in the brain — cerebral oximetry.

The company says that early testing data and outcomes from an ongoing clinical study at the Duke University Medical Center have yielded favourable results. The results support the objective to simplify sensor application while improving the usefulness of the measurement.

For over two decades, Nonin Medical has developed products for noninvasive physiological monitoring, with specific focus on highly effective signal processing and the advancement of innovative pulse oximeter products. With the introduction of the Onyx, the world's first fingertip pulse oximeter, Nonin Medical changed the global market for oximetry. Today, Nonin Medical has the largest installed base of pulse oximeters in the industry with well over one million units worldwide.

Earlier this year Nonin introduced a fingertip oximeter with Bluetooth wireless technology. The Onyx II, Model 9560 fingertip pulse oximeter is designed for interoperability, meeting the requirements of the emerging Medical Device Profile (MDP), IEEE11073 and Continua compliance standards.
