Visually impaired people can ‘watch’ TV thanks to award winning technology developed by Bristol-based Ocean Blue Software. This UK innovation is one of hundreds being showcased to international buyers at TechnologyWorld09 from 23 to 24 November in the Ricoh Arena, Coventry.

Ocean Blue Software, the UK company specialising in developing innovative software solutions for Digital TV, attended TechnologyWorld last year and met with international companies from Brazil, China and Europe.

This year, the company will demonstrate its ‘talking TV’, developed with the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB), which turns on-screen text into speech and has customisable settings such choosing fonts and colours to suit the viewer’s needs.

By exhibiting at UK Trade & Investment’s (UKTI) TechnologyWorld09, Ocean Blue Software aims to cost-effectively meet global giants like Nokia to secure R&D investment and sell existing products. Last year delegates potentially secured more than £30 million of business deals.

Ocean Blue Software CEO Ken Helps said: “Ocean Blue attends TechnologyWorld as it brings companies together that may not otherwise have the chance to meet and explore collaboration opportunities. The speed-meeting ensures attendees make the most of their visit; last year we came away with some great contacts and potential for business.”

TechnologyWorld09 is a two-day event giving British firms a platform to build international business. Among the global giants attending are Panasonic, Hitachi, Orange, PTT and Kayagura Health Solutions. Last year almost all (93%) of the international businesses from 38 countries that took part said they were likely to increase their trade with UK businesses as a result of attending.

UKTI Chief Executive Sir Andrew Cahn said: “TechnologyWorld just gets better and better. The UK attracts top buyers because of its track record of innovation and excellence in technology. For the UK firms attending, whether SMEs or larger firms, these meetings can be their springboard for global growth.”

The UK is at the forefront of the health technology sector, developing solutions to address issues facing ageing developed economies, growly sophisticated developing economies and public expenditure constraints. With NHS’s high level of IT investment 98% of British GPs use IT systems for electronic medical records. According to NHS Connecting for Health technology, has saved the NHS at least £208 million.
