MedilinkUK and MEDEC partner with UTEK to increase licensing and partnering opportunities

9 March 2010

Intellectual property licensing and innovation services company UTEK Corporation (NYSE Amex: UTK), is partnering with MEDEC and MedilinkUK and its online licensing marketplaces, Pharmalicensing and Medical Device Licensing.

Through this partnership, hundreds of new companies can take advantage of UTEK's growing network of registered companies and industry professionals, all looking to identify licensing and partnering opportunities worldwide.

MEDEC is the national association for the Canadian medical technology industry, and MedilinkUK is the leading network of regionally-based organizations working to grow the economic impact of UK Life Sciences. The partnerships will bring UTEK to large clusters of critical life sciences organizations in Canada and the UK. MEDEC and MedilinkUK will be able to bring their membership increased IP license exposure and access with minimized risk and cost preferences through UTEK’s Medical Device Licensing online marketplace.

UTEK’s Medical Device Licensing is a key element in the business development tool-box of innovation-hungry life science companies. Clients range from the global multinational companies seeking to identify the latest blockbuster products, right through to small locally operated organizations looking to bring innovative IP to a global audience.

“Our group’s focus has been on ensuring access to proven, safe technology and innovative medical technology developed by our member companies. Our relationship with UTEK’s Medical Device Licensing helps us do that and more. With potential efficiencies for our members, Medical Device Licensing provides global resource access and exposure that could help them grow beyond their current means,” confirms Stephen Dibert, President and CEO of MEDEC.

“We are excited to strike such a partnership with UTEK. Via UTEK’s Medical Device Licensing, we are able to offer our members convenient and valuable exposure to its 190,000 visitors each month as well as to its robust bank of available IP,” states Sue Wilde on behalf of MedilinkUK. “Our goal is to proactively lead member companies to commercial opportunities in the medical market. This new member service will undoubtedly further their partnering and licensing efforts.”

“These partnerships and our recent alliance with Patents.com means we can bring even more opportunities to MEDEC, MedilinkUK members and our clients in their search for partners to develop and commercialize their IP,” said Mark McBride, Managing Director of UTEK Pharmalicensing. “These agreements further our aim to increase well-targeted traffic to drive market efficiencies, help our clients realize more value from their IP portfolios, and ultimately foster innovation around the world.”
