International design award for three Siemens diagnostic imaging
systems
14 April 2010
Siemens Healthcare has been awarded the international red dot
design award for three of its new-to-market imaging systems. The product
design accolade was awarded to the Magnetom Aera 1.5 Tesla and Magnetom
Skyra 3 Tesla MRI systems plus the Somatom Definition Flash CT.
A total of 4,252 products were submitted from designers and
manufacturers in 57 countries. The judging panel, consisting of 30
design experts from all over the world, based their decision on
criteria such as innovation level, functionality and ecological
compatibility.
The 70cm Open Bore design of both MRI systems accommodates a
large variety of patient sizes, shapes and conditions. This is
complemented by a friendly and open appearance, which helps to
reduce sedation rates and minimises stress for claustrophobic
patients. Furthermore, the systems’ super-short magnets enable many
studies to be completed with the patient’s head outside the bore
while still supporting a full 50cm Field of View (FoV) (45 cm in
z-direction). Both MRIs also feature an illuminated MoodLight on the
front panel, which can be altered according to the user’s
preference.
Happy people with a Siemens Magnetom Skyra!
“The winning products distinguish themselves from the masses
through their excellent design and innovative approach. They
demonstrated their quality in one of the toughest design
competitions in the world,” said design expert Professor Peter Zec,
who created the red dot design award.
“Both the Aera and Skyra incorporate advanced technology with
innovative design, created with patient comfort and ease-of-use in
mind,” said Jane Kilkenny, MR Product Manager at Siemens Healthcare.
“We are delighted to receive this international affirmation of our
product design as the systems are officially launched in the UK.”
