Philips announces new COPD alliance and medical innovations at
Medica 2010
17 Nov 2010
Philips is announcing a new alliance for COPD at Medica this
week that is expected to result in better treatment access for patients.
It is also displaying easy-to-use product innovations for operating
rooms, healing lighting, patient monitoring and cardiac ultrasound that
support both clinicians and patients.
“Our new partnership in the area of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary
Disease, demonstrates Philips’ commitment to providing clinicians
with a complete range of solutions which will enhance access to
treatment for patients worldwide,” said Kevin Haydon, Executive Vice
President Philips Healthcare, International Markets.
“Whether the goal is to help patients suffering from breathlessness
better manage their condition at home or to care for patients in the
hospital setting, Philips can provide innovative, easy to use
technology which solves the needs of both clinicians and patients.
Philips will be making the following announcements and
showcasing the following products during Medica 2010:
New alliance
COPD Gold Partnership
Philips is announcing its partnership with the Global Initiative for
Chronic Lung Disease (GOLD) on World COPD Day (November 17, 2010).
GOLD works with healthcare professionals and public health officials
around the world to raise awareness of COPD as a public health
problem and to decrease morbidity and mortality from COPD through
the implementation and evaluation of effective programs for
diagnosis and management.
Philips shares with GOLD a commitment to improve COPD patients’
access to treatment throughout the world. As part of this
commitment, Philips recently unveiled the new UltraFill home oxygen
filling system in the US that allows respiratory patients a simpler
way to manage their home oxygen system. The UltraFill home oxygen
filling system will be available soon in Europe.
Easy to use and innovative solutions to support clinicians
and patients
Hybrid Operating Room
Philips in partnership with MAQUET are jointly showcasing the latest
version of their Hybrid Operating Room (OR) Suite at MEDICA 2010. On
display will be the Allura Xper FD OR Table which integrates the
Philips Allura Xper angiographic X-ray system with the MAQUET Hybrid
OR solution including hybrid table.
Also shown are HeartNavigator, OR lights, monitors, and radiation
protection walls. The Hybrid OR Suite is a simple, one–room solution
combining facilities for both minimally invasive and open surgical
procedures. Live demonstrations of the Hybrid OR Suite will be held
at the MAQUET booth, #D50/51 in hall 12.
A ‘virtual reality’ presentation on the Hybrid OR Suite will be
running at the Philips Healthcare booth, A21, A22 and C23 in hall
10, where full technical information will be available.
HealWell: Healing Patient Room with light
HealWell is an innovative lighting concept for patient rooms which
positively influences the well-being of patients and supports their
recovery. Based on recent research, there are many biological
effects of light on our circadian rhythm and recuperation. This
lighting solution developed to heal better and improve room ambiance
includes a natural dynamic ceiling light panel, coloured LED
lighting in coves for ambiance, sparkling LED spots and dimmable
reading lights. Preliminary field results show that this lighting
solution improves the satisfaction of both patients and staff.
IntelliVue MX800 patient monitoring
Philips is showcasing the IntelliVue MX800 patient monitoring
system, which supports the clinician in providing excellent patient
care by giving easy and immediate access to comprehensive patient
information directly at the monitor, at the patient’s bedside.
In addition to displaying and recording traditional data such as
patient vital signs, the IntelliVue MX800 offers direct access to
patient information from almost any system on a hospital’s IT
infrastructure. The MX800 also enables applications to run natively
on the embedded informatics platform while keeping the real time
patient monitoring separate and protected.
This allows clinicians to easily view patient data from sources such
as electronic medical records (EMRs), imaging studies and other
clinical applications, helping to save caregivers’ time and aid in
clinical decision making at the point of care.
Improving and enhancing performance
iU22 xMATRIX ultrasound system
Philips’ iU22 xMATRIX ultrasound system redefines premium
performance in ultrasound. The system’s ergonomically designed X6-1
PureWave xMATRIX array transducer offers ultra-thin slice imaging,
resulting in crisp, high-resolution images. The new Live xPlane
feature allows clinicians to create two full-resolution images
simultaneously, capturing twice as much clinical information in the
same amount of time without moving or turning the transducer, even
when obtaining orthogonal views.
Trackball technology eliminates the need to sweep manually with the
hand. Clinical trials have shown that xPlane speeds workflow,
improves perception of anatomy, and has the potential to minimize
the frequent repetitive stress injuries experienced in the field of
sonography.
iE33 xMATRIX cardiac ultrasound system
The enhanced iE33 xMATRIX cardiac ultrasound system features a
new ergonomic solution for more efficient adult echocardiograms, the
X5-1 transducer. The system enables expanded cardiac-related
diagnostic capabilities through new features such as outstanding 2D
and 3D image quality utilizing a single transducer, near
instantaneous acquisition of 3D volumes, new 3D workflow tools and a
visualized colour Doppler flow pattern during 3D exams.
With the X5-1 and iRotate, a clinician can more easily obtain
challenging 2D views and the system also offers a 3D stress echo
solution that can be incorporated with conventional 2D stress echo.
After acquiring a volume, clinicians can use the system’s advanced
iSlice software to obtain short axis views of the heart’s apex,
obtaining additional clinical information not routinely provided by
ultrasound.
