Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, unveils latest SPECT/CT gamma
camera
17 May 2011
Queen’s Medical Centre, part of Nottingham University
Hospitals NHS Trust, has installed a state-of-the-art system for nuclear
medicine, the Philips BrightView XCT SPECT/CT gamma camera.
The new system has a patient table design that creates an optimum
environment for all patients, regardless of size. It also has
software that enables patients to breathe normally during both SPECT
and CT acquisition — with conventional SPECT/CT systems, patients
are required to hold their breath or engage in limited breathing
during CT acquisition.
Dr Rakesh Ganatra, Consultant Radiologist, Nuclear Medicine
Physician & PET/CT Specialist at Nottingham University Hospitals,
said, “Combining a gamma camera with CT, all within a small
footprint, is very new technology and means that the camera can fit
conveniently into a standard nuclear medicine room. It provides us
with affordable, easy to operate SPECT/CT, with the added benefit of
aftercare from Philips which is so essential for ensuring continuous
service provision for our patients.”
