Salford Royal hospital improves its imaging facilities with new X-ray system

3 December 2011

Salford, UK. Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust has installed an Ysio wi-D digital radiography system from Siemens Healthcare in its new accident and emergency department. It is hoped the new system will alleviate pressure on other departments by increasing imaging capacity and shortening examination times.

The Ysio wi-D has been installed in the Emergency Radiology Department and will be used for all casualty and trauma procedures and the examination of intensive care patients, for example the detection of cervical spine injuries.

“We chose the Ysio wi-D from Siemens Healthcare because it produces high resolution images at a much lower dose,” states Phil Smalley, Superintendent Radiographer for A&E and Theatre at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. “After looking at all the options available, we decided the Ysio was best suited to the hospital’s needs; we needed a system that was capable of delivering high resolution images rapidly plus the wireless detector means it is more manoeuvrable and flexible for patient positioning.”

“The Ysio wi-D’s flexibility is ideally suited to the fast pace of an Accident and Emergency department,” said John Brady, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens Healthcare. “The wireless detector allows for a greater level of convenience plus its ease of use will help reduce patient examination times and offer clear results to radiographers rapidly. We anticipate that its installation will assist with Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust’s workflow efficiency.”
