Immunodiagnostic Systems Holdings receives Queens Award for Enterprise

25 April 2012

Sunderland-based Immunodiagnostic Systems Holdings plc, a producer of specialist diagnostic testing kits and instrumentation, has received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade.

The Award is given for the highest levels of excellence demonstrated by a UK based company. The Enterprise in International Trade Award recognises businesses that have achieved substantial growth in overseas earnings and in commercial success.

More than 90% of IDS’ products are exported internationally and the Company has continually grown its export revenues over the last six years with net profits increasing from around £1 million in 2006 to £16 million in 2011. IDS is building a global presence with customers throughout the US, Europe and increasingly in Asia including China.

IDS is focused on the development of very sensitive, highly specific assays to accurately determine the concentration of biologically important markers in tiny samples of biological fluids such as serum, plasma, saliva and urine. The results of such analyses are of critical importance in the diagnosis of disease, the monitoring of therapy and to biomedical researchers in their quest to more fully understand the underlying biology of disease states.

IDS works closely with hospitals, universities and research institutes to bring their innovative ideas and products to market, with the goal of introducing new clinical tests for the more efficient diagnosis of disease.

Ian Cookson, CEO of IDS, said: “This is our third Queen’s Award and the receipt of the Enterprise in International Trade Award is a powerful recognition of the dedication of our employees, our growing customer base around the world and of the excellent science that underpins our business. It is a privilege to have been recommended by our Prime Minister, David Cameron and we are delighted to receive this accolade from Her Majesty The Queen.”
