Seminar in Birmingham on market for devices for diabetics

6 May 2012

Commercial opportunities to develop new devices for diabetics will be showcased in the first of a series of events by medtech industry specialist Medilink.

A seminar on ‘Assessing Market Opportunities: Devices for Diabetes’, will be held on 29 May 2012 at the Signing Tree Conference Centre in Birmingham. It will look at the demand for novel devices and treatment techniques that support safe and high quality diabetes management.

Designed to help manufacturers and designers assess this complex market, speakers from Diabetes UK and Medilink, as well as practicing clinicians, will explain which direction this market is heading in, review the current stable of devices available and identify the real needs of patients, carers and commissioners.

Events manager Lucy Watkins said: “With 1 in 20 of the population now being treated for diabetes, the cost of treating the disease in Europe currently stands at €90bn — a figure that is set to rise. We know that new ways of caring for patients and reducing the burden on hospitals must be found. That’s why we have teamed up with clinicians and Diabetes UK to help manufacturers, product managers and device designers spot new product development opportunities.”
