Apnea-risk evaluation system for home use receives clearance for sale
in EU
The Apnea Risk Evaluation System (ARES) for diagnosing obstructive sleep
apnea (OSA) has received the CE Mark, allowing it to be marketed in the
European Union. The ARES combines a miniaturized, battery-powered device to
measure blood oxygen levels, pulse rate, snoring sounds, nasal pressure and
head position/movement with a questionnaire to assess known risk factors.
SpineVision Receives FDA Clearance for PediGuard surgical drill
SpineVision(R) has received from the US FDA clearance to market the
Company's PediGuard(TM) instrument as an FDA Class II device. PediGuard is a
drilling instrument that constantly monitors the electrical conductivity of
the tissue at its tip throughout the drilling process.
Edwards Lifesciences pays tribute to Dr Jeremy
Swan's contributions to medical technology
Edwards Lifesciences Corporation paid tribute today to the late
Jeremy Swan, M.D., chairman emeritus of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center's
division of cardiology and co-inventor of the Edwards Swan-Ganz pulmonary
artery catheter. The device has helped clinicians evaluate cardiovascular
performance during heart surgery in more than 25 million patients.
ECRI evaluates patient monitoring systems
ECRI offers purchasing guidance on six physiologic monitoring systems in its
January 2005 issue of Health Devices. The patient monitoring systems
were evaluated and rated for seven separate applications.
Biotel revenues up 25%
Biotel Inc. has announced revenues for the second quarter ended
December 31, 2004 were up 24.8% to $2,596,000 versus revenues of $2,080,000
for the quarter ended December 31, 2003.
